1957 first press 33 1/3 RPM promo LP release by The Crickets. LP at hand was the first Long Play album release for Buddy Holly and his band, originally known simply as The Crickets. Great LP, probably the best of all the Holly albums, with almost every track a Rock classic.

Side 1 - Oh, Boy / Not Fade Away / You've Got Love / Maybe Baby / It's Too Late / Tell Me How. Side 2 - That'll Be The Day / I'm Lookin' For Someone To Love / An Empty Cup ( And A Broken Date ) / Send Me Some Lovin' / Last Night / Rock Me My Baby. Copy at hand is not only an original first pressing, but also has the fantastically rare yellow promo label! Cover is printed on textured paper which is similar to a cloth-bound book. Front cover slick on this paper has much better resolution than the later pressings plain paper. This slick almost gives the figures of the band a 3-D appearance! Front slick looks great, but does have a small water stain at top edge just left of center. First name in pen at top right corner. Cover shows edgewear and 3 inch seam split at top right. Bottom right corner has 1/2 inch split. Back cover shows moderate wear-no stains, tears, writing, etc. (Please note that the vertical line on the front cover in our scan is NOT actually present-this is just an anomaly of our scan.) Heavy vinyl disc has yellow "sample copy" promotional label with "deep groove" underneath. Vinyl has excellent gloss. Both sides do show a heavy tracery of light to moderate (mostly very light) scratches-but (amazingly) NO SERIOUS GOUGES. Side 2 has signifigantly more of the same sorts of marks from a visual standpoint, but actually plays just as well as side one except for a two second worn spot at the beginning. Overall play has extremely bright clear sound (promo copies are true first pressings, made with the freshest stampers, master tapes, etc.) with only light to moderate crackles & pops. We have struggled for the correct grade for the disc. In view of the absence of any truly heavy marks and the fine gloss still on the vinyl we have finally decided on Very Good Plus. In review, we have a very rare Buddy Holly collectible here, indeed. The textured cover version (commercial release with black label) lists for up to $800. The only price guide we can find that even lists this promotional issue gives a value of up to $1000. This is the first copy we have seen in 25 years in the business, and it is probably our last.Mega-rare Buddy Holly collectible-offered for a low price without reserve!
