Description

Hello, and welcome to today's auction! For bids today we have an early Chuck Berry 78 RPM record. In fact, it's the earliest Chuck Berry record there is! From Berry's very first recording session for Chicago's Chess records on May 21, 1955, comes "Maybelline" and "Wee Wee Hours." Backing up Berry are Johnny Johnson on Piano, Jerome Green (from Bo Diddley's band) on the maracas, Jasper Thomas on the drums and blues legend Willie Dixon on the bass. "Maybellene" sold over a million copies, reaching #1 on Billboard's Rhythm and Blues chart and #5 on the Hot 100.

I don't normally sell records, so I'm probably not sure enough of the standard record grading system to properly grade this record. However, I have played each side a few times, and it plays clean with no pops or clicks, despite having a few minor scuffs. The record plays with great fidelity, too. As seen in the photos, the label on the "Wee Wee Hours" side shows a rough spot, probably from a long-gone name label.

I've bought plenty of 78s on ebay, so I know the difference between good and bad packing when it comes to records. This will ship carefully and properly packed for $4 via USPS 2-3 day priority mail to the US only. If you need more information or extra photos, just let me know!

Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
