ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This outstanding LP from Decca (SXL 6573, English pressing, black/silver NB label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features Kyung-Wha Chung's dazzling and poetic accounts of Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor Op. 26 and Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra Op. 46, both recorded in the fabled acoustics of London's Kingsway Hall, London on 15 and 20 May 1972 with Rudolf Kempe conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (producer: Ray Minshull / engineers: James Lock and Philip Wade).
At arkivmusic.com, one can find the following review: "Kyung Wha Chung's career was launched with a series of LPs made for Decca in the early 1970s, revealing an artist of exceptional technique, insight and spontaneity. One of these contained this rich-sounding performance of the Bruch G minor Violin Concerto, recorded with Rudolf Kempe and the Royal Philharmonic in 1972. It is still one of the freshest and most vital readings of this piece around, as Chung seems to know exactly where to draw the line between precision and abandon, the playing always seeming felt rather than planned, perhaps the highest achievement for a virtuoso. The 1981 recording of the Mendelssohn is a sheer delight, with fast tempos giving the work an extra sparkle, something the soloist obviously relishes."
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT++. There is very slight bumping/wear at corners, as well as mild discoloration and a former price sticker to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no bends, owners' markings, seamsplits, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very handsome in appearance – overall, a quite fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT++. The surfaces are not always absolutely CD silent, but in general the playback is superb. If you must have a flawless copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as an excellent, close to near-MINT, collector’s copy.
