Description

Circle: DNA/Indepence 7" (1991)

This is it, the first ever official Circle release, the now legendary DNA b/w Indepence 7" EP from 1991, released by the band themselves under the mock label "Circles of 7th Seal" (Matrix code "CIRCLES 001"). This is the 7" that got them signed onto Bad Vugum, where they went on to release the EPs Point and Silver and the classic full lengths Meronia and Zopalki. The exact number of copies is unknown, but is most likely well below 500 copies -- I've heard people say that 300, 250, 200 or even 150 copies were made, but these are unofficial numbers. Something between 200-300 copies is probably correct. Remember, the vast majority of those copies never made it outside of Finland, so this is truly a rare gem to behold. This is the complete set with insert, an incredibly rare opportunity to grab a relic of Finnish underground rock.

Note about the packaging: The "sleeve" consists of two 7"x7" pieces of paper that have been xeroxed on yellow-brown paper, the insert is also xeroxed, on b/w paper. The disc is a white label 7" without any markings. This is exactly as it's supposed to be, all copies came with xeroxed covers and inserts -- remember, the band put the 7" out themselves, and with as small a sum as possible. The copy I have for sale here is 100% authentic and official (AFAIK no bootlegs even exist).

Needless to say, I will go to great pains in making sure that the EP reaches its new home in pristine condition and will pack it up to the best of my abilities.

Track listing:
A: DNA
B: Indepence [yes, not Independence]

Item condition:
VG/VG+ (disc/sleeve--NB: I never use M or NM grades on a used record, no matter how perfect the condition)
The 7" has plenty of visible surface scratches, scuffs and dust, but it plays quite alright, no loud cracks or pops, just some minor background crackling. Side B, however, has an unfortunate scratch that is clearly audible for the first 15-20 seconds of the track, after which the sound disappears. Luckily the 7" has been mastered to be quite loud (in comparison to other Circle vinyl releases from this era), and the music itself drowns out almost all of the background crackling. Note, of course, that these are subjective notes made while listening to the 7" with my personal setup (a Rega P2 turntable with a reasonably fresh Goldring stylus).

The covers, as I said, are xeroxed pieces of thin paper, and are thus clearly in a used condition. There are absolutely no tears, folds or creases. The covers simply look used, but they are not in a bad condition by any means, quite the opposite. The insert is in excellent condition (EX). All in all, considering the age and rarity of the item, the EP is in very good condition and will be a brilliant addition to any Circle collection.
