From the album liner notes:
This is a record of a beautiful evening long ago. The date was Novemer 7th, 1955, and the place was a neighborhood bar called the Bee Hive, deep in the black community on the South Side of Chicago. The Bee Hive sold a lot of beer and a lot of whiskey, and it had a bandstand. And on that long-vanished evening, some extraordianary men assembled on that bandstand and made music. Three of the men were from Chicago: Nicky HIll on tenor sax, Billy Wallace on piano, and Leo Blevins on guitar. The others were the nucleus of the great Max Roach-Clifford Brown quintet. Geroge Morrow is playing the bass, Max is on drums, and the trumpet player is the legendary Clifford Brown. On the other tenor sax you can hear a young man named Sonny Rollins.
