ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This lovely and rare LP from French Columbia (SAXF 947, French Pathé-Marconi pressing, blue/silver label – ED1, stereo, dowel spine) features Album 4 of conductor André Cluytens and the l' Orchestra de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire's legendary, sumptuous and glittering Ravel cycle, produced by the great René Challan and engineered by Walter Ruhlmann, all sessions held in the spacious acoustics of the Salle Wagram, Paris.
The sound quality is truly extraordinary and from the very first gripping bars of Bolero one has the sensation of being in the very presence of the Paris Conservatory Orchestra.
Album 4 includes dazzling performances of the following works:

Menuet antique – rec. 2 October 1962
Alborada del gracioso, from Miroirs – rec. 26 September 1962
Une barque sur l'océan, from Miroirs – rec. 27 September 1962
Pavane pour une infante défunte – rec. 3 October 1962

Incidentally, there are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, in French only, by Jean Cotté.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the heavy cardboard “baguette”-style jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight wear at corners, some stray marks and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no bends, seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other flaws and the album remains perfectly solid and highly attractive in appearance – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the dowel spine is GOOD. The dowel is detached from the paper sleeve for the last 3”, but is otherwise intact and solid. Additionally the lettering on the dowel is legible. Overall, this still rates as a decent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. While there are a few slightly noisy passages, in general the playback is quite fine. However, those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
