Description
Col Nolan Soul Syndicate LP Live at Jason's
On cleaning out my old vinyl LPs I found this original 1973 Avanguard pressing.I have had it since new but not played it for many years.
I am amazed how clean and clear it sounds now. Only a few light clicks on side 1.
The cover is in good condition, a little denting on the left corners and top right.
The description says:
Here it is - an album by the SOUL SYNDICATE. Lots of hard swinging no-nonsense jazz, a couple of ballads and an out-of-sight medley - the same medley which knocked out the audiences when the Syndicate were the support act for the King of the Clarinet, BENNY GOODMAN - sung by JOHN NICOL, one of the best vocalists in the country. Some people say he is the number one, and I wouldn’t argue with them. COL plays the Organ and Electric Piano with the right hand only (the left hand is in charge of the keyboard bass) and let me tell you there aren’t many anywhere who get that much happening with one hand. The bass lines he is playing will make a lot of bass players sit up. Tenor Saxophonist, LAURIE LEWIS is the same Laurie Lewis who has written dozens of television themes which you hear every day. He is, in general, a much sought after Writer and Record Producer, and as you can hear on this album, a hell of a saxophone player. ROGER SELLERS is one of the hardest swinging and at the same time one of the most sensitive drummers in the business. We’ve lost him since this record was made which is a shame. He is now in the U.S.A. A very important feature of the SOUL SYNDICATE’S music is that nothing is arranged, nothing much worked out. It’s all spontaneous as is the best of jazz. All the tracks on this album were recorded in one take. So there you have it - the COL NOLAN SOUL SYNDICATE 1973 Vintage, and getting it on in much the same manner as they do on Sunday nights at Jasons and during the week at the Rocks Push.
We’d like to give special things to Mr Bert Mendelson, Mr Graham Marks and Mr Eddie Santos, the owners of Jason’s who had faith in us and sponsored the making of this record.
