NOTE: THERE ARE 2 RODRIGUEZ LPs ON OFFER AND THEY ARE BOTH BADLY SCRATCHED. PURCHASE ONLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR RODRIGUEZ MEMORABILIA FOR FRAMING, TO BE USED AS PROPS, ETC. THE PRICE COVERS THE POSTAGE ONLY. PLEASE READ ON:

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Rodriguez, a Mexican-American singer/songwriter and guitarist, released his first album Cold Fact on the Sussex label in 1970. It’s one of the lost classics of the late 1960s to early 1970s, a psychedelic masterpiece drenched in colour and inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion. Relatively unknown in the USA, Rodriguez was unaware that his defining album had become a cult classic in South Africa, selling an estimated half-million copies. After releasing further albums such as: Coming From Reality, After The Fact and The Best of Rodriguez, he then disappeared from the music scene for over two decades until he was rediscovered working as a day laborer in Detroit, Michigan.

Searching for Sugar Man, a documentary on his musical journey, won the Oscar for best documentary at the 85th annual Academy Awards in 2013 and helped push the reissue of his first album Cold Fact back onto the Billboard 200. In 85 years of the Academy Awards, only a handful of music-oriented films have won the documentary prize.

These Rodriguez LPs: Cold Fact LP  (Sixto Rodriguez’s original South African release from 1974) and the Best of Rodriguez (Released in 1982) are unfortunately both badly scratched but I decided to put them up on ebay anyway, in case there are fans out there who would want to frame these, if only as nostalgic memorabilia items. The price of $29.00 + the ebay mailing limit of $4.00 barely covers the mailing cost from South Africa to the USA, or Europe, but it’s better to get them to someone who can appreciate them (even though they shouldn’t be played on a new turntable) as opposed to them lying in my cupboard at home. Thanks.
