Description

Would have sold in tiny numbers in <STEREO> in 1963. Matrix 1/1 - the 1st cut. Note the labels are the early large "33" style and textured. Pressed on Philips plant this copy holds the very 1st iteration label design 'recording 1st published 1963'. Phillips pressings are really heavy and are ideal for jazz records as they can be found with a nice quiet background. The vinyl comes housed in an original <STEREO> 1st issue cover with exposed flipbacks. The format indicator on the front <STEREO> is in mauve and the printer is not credited on the rear - this is the very 1st iteration of this cover. 
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Holy cow! this copy is in unbelievable condition. Never seen a jazz record from the early sixties looking like this, or sound like it! Mirror surfaces and barely a mark observable. Check out the label shots - this beast is low-mileage. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. And lets just qualify that for a moment... I almost NEVER give out that grading on an early sixties jazz title. In fact, this might well be the first ever time. ha! Intros and inbetweens are perfectly quiet and the audio comes across with amazing clarity. If you're a jazz fiend with extremely fussy threshold for background - this copy would be ideal for you. I have never heard or seen a jazz LP from this era in this condition or playing this clean. It's like it was pressed yesterday. VERY VERY rarely do jazz records play with a perfectly clean background. You will get to hear the brass perfectly resolved - the percussion with precision and right down low into the mix. An all round perfect rendition - which could never be bettered. You'll struggle to make out more than a couple of crackles in a couple of spots per side. An all time show-stopper. Final Upgrade.
Cover (Vg+) Not up to the standard of the vinyl - but hey it's all about the audio surely? The front exhibits some light ageing and tape residue on the opening edge. As I always say with tape on the openings - at least it has preserved them nice and firm. The rear looks real nice without a lot of ageing. Just a strip along the openings where the tape has come away. Edge wear is pretty minor and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Please note there's a 'recording 1st made 1962' written on the rear.
