═══════════════════════════════════════════════ THE MUSIC ═══════════════════════════════════════════════ One of the most important albums in jazz history — the document of Coltrane's harmonic breakthrough and his first as a leader for Atlantic. The Coltrane Quartet with Tommy Flanagan (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Art Taylor (drums); Wynton Kelly and Jimmy Cobb appear on "Naima." Recorded May and December 1959, released January 1960. Contains "Giant Steps," "Cousin Mary," "Countdown," "Spiral," "Syeeda's Song Flute," "Naima," and "Mr. P.C."
═══════════════════════════════════════════════ CONDITION ═══════════════════════════════════════════════ VINYL: Very Good Plus (VG+) — graded visually, not play-tested Strong, glossy play surface overall. There are some faint surface marks, mostly visible only under direct light and concentrated on one side; under raking light a few of these may be light scratches rather than hairlines. No spindle wear. Atlantic mono pressings of this era are robust, but I have not play-tested this copy and can't confirm how the marks sound. Graded conservatively at VG+ on that basis — please bid with the no-playback disclosure in mind.
JACKET: Very Good Plus (VG+) Exceptionally strong for age — vibrant red borders, intact corners, no ring wear, no seam splits, no significant edge wear. Minor age toning on the white rear margins (typical for the era). A small handwritten pencil "5379" (prior shop/inventory mark) in the lower-right of the back cover, pictured. Labels clean, no spindle damage.
