Program 13 and 14, both parts.

Up for your consideration is a 2 Transcription Disc set of "The Ted Lewis Show",
a Chartoc-Colman Production, Chicago Illinois

Recorded and pressed by Columbia Recording Corporation,
a subsidiary of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc.

Ted Lewis Show discs contain half of two consecutive programs, two discs complete two programs. This set contains part 1 of programs 13 and 14 on one disc and part 2 of programs 13 and 14 on the other disc.

The Transcription Discs are 16" in diameter and play at 33 1/3 RPM

Based on the design of the label and the content of the disc, we believe
this disc dates from 1947 or 1948. My research has led me to believe that the Ted Lewis Show was aired between 1947 and 1948. This is consistent with the time frame in which the musical note and microphone logo of CBS was in use.
 
The Ted Lewis Show is a lost treasure of old time radio. It is difficult to locate elsewhere and those few programs or copies found from extensive online searching are not for sale. Please note that this is the second and last chance (from our collection) to acquire programs 13 and 14. This 2 disc set is the last one we have for these particular programs and contains some unusual materials enclosed in the sleeves (described further down).

The condition of the two discs vary from one another considerably. The disc containing part 2 of programs 13 and 14 is in wonderful condition. Some dust is present. The disc containing part 1 of programs 13 and 14 is a different story. First, contained on the non-playing area are a number of small lines or rubbings. When examined, we believe that these lines are not scratches. Second, there is a shallow scratch in the non-playing area that appears to crossover onto the playing area as a line or rubbing. On the other side, there are two moderately sized rubbings on the playing area in addition to a large line on the playing area (looks like a scratch but feels like a rubbing). As usual and expected, the disc is a tad dusty. The labels of both discs are in very nice condition aside from a notation stating: "THE GIRL THAT I MARRY". I expect that this is the title of one of the songs on this 2 disc set.

The paper sleeves are in nice condition overall. There are some slight to moderate tearing on both sleeves. One sleeve has a former owner's stamp. Commercial records for consumers come with original (usually lithographic) sleeves. Transcription discs are not for consumers and therefore, they do not require nor are they sold with lithographic sleeves. So, we feel that the sleeve condition is a minor point in assessing this disc.
 
Information on materials enclosed in sleeve: There are two documents that came enclosed in the sleeves and are part of this auction. Both are scans of articles. The larger one is a scan of a New York Times article, dated August 26, 1971. The title is "Ted Lewis, Showman, Dies at 80". It provides some background on Ted Lewis as well as some information on his later years. The smaller one appears to be an article of Time, dated April 13, 1953. It contains some background on Ted Lewis and some information on events taking place around the date of the article. Please see the pictures for more information on the contents of the articles. On the back of the larger article is a hand written notation that seems to indicate where the Ted Lewis Show was produced. It says "ET = Recorded in Liederkranz Hall NYC".  If you google "LEIDERKRANZ HALL - THE WORLD'S BEST RECORDING STUDIO?", you should come across some information on the studio itself.
