Description
Ben Bernie (1891-1943) led a very successful New-York-based band in the 1920s and 1930s, recording for Brunswick and then Columbia. He was popular enough to be featured in the 1937 film Wake Up and Live which spoofed a supposed feud between radio commentator Walter Winchell and him. This royal blue Columbia features an offbeat novelty tune, “The Duke Is on a Bat Again” and “Ain’t That Marvelous (My Baby Loves Me),” recorded August 21, 1933. Sol, some wear and a few light scratches. Condition V++
NOTE: I grade records by a rating system that has been standard in the industry for decades. Still, it can be a subjective undertaking. I am more likely to grade by how the record reproduces aurally (I use a 78 Shure cartridge with a 1950s Voice of Music turntable that has been fit into a 1946 Magnavox Belvedere radio-phonograph) than by how it looks visually. Sometimes a record that appears substantially worn plays very well and sometimes the opposite is true.
