Description
This is a RARE record. I inherited a group of antique records and I've been learning about them. It's all very fascinating.
This is for a antique 78 record with the Columbia Phonograph Co record label. This one was copyrighted in 1902. One of the earliest Columbia record series labels. It's the song Dixie, It says on the record that it won a grand prize in Paris in 1900.
Dixie is recorded with the Fife and Drum Corp. and Dan Emmett Baritone and Tenor Duet, with Orchestra accompaniment Sung by Stanley and Harlan. Catalog No. 1777
In learning about the records I've inherited, Columbia records were the first records ever made when phonographs were created. The label went through various changes as it moved forward. This label was the first one they used. In 1908 they switched to a blue label that just said Columbia on it. In 1917 they went to a black label that said Columbia Record on it and then around 1938-47 they went to a red label that said Columbia and had CBS on it, in a round circle, as they merged with that company.
The record has normal to minimal signs of wear. I feel it's in good shape for the year. There are very few scratches, but there are some small pit marks. A nice addition to for a collector. I'm not an authority on grading these, but this one seems better than most I've seen in my group.
This record has value because of it's age, it's condition and the rareness of the record label's design.
