Vinyl (Playback)
Both records are well-used but not abused and have been fully play-tested, playing through without skips or jumps. Overall playback sits at VG+, reaching EX in places.
Across the set, background noise is most noticeable at the outer edges of the discs and improves as each side progresses, typically settling into occasional isolated pops and light crackle rather than constant noise.
Playback was tested using a Cambridge Audio Azur 640P phono preamp (please see full testing spec below), which offers a relatively forgiving presentation and may reduce the audibility of low-level surface noise compared with more revealing systems. Bidders should take this into account.
Movement / Side Notes
- Side A – First Movement: Allegro moderato
Background noise is more apparent at the start, particularly during more exposed passages, and improves as the side develops. - Side B – Second Movement: Adagio
Quieter and sustained sections reveal some low-level surface noise early on, which becomes less intrusive as the movement unfolds. - Side C – Third Movement: Scherzo & Trio / Fourth Movement: Finale
Background noise is more noticeable towards the outer edge at the beginning of the side but improves, giving way mainly to occasional isolated pops and light crackle. Denser orchestration helps mask residual noise. - Side D – Siegfried Idyll
Little background noise throughout and only the occasional isolated pop.
Visual Condition
Vinyl surfaces show light hairlines and occasional superficial scuffs, none of which are feelable or cause tracking issues. Wear is consistent with careful but regular use over time.
Labels
Labels display moderate spindle wear, visible but not excessive, and in keeping with the overall VG+/EX playback profile. No writing, tears, or major damage.
Sleeves
Both sleeves show obvious signs of wear, with SAX 2454 the more heavily worn of the two. Sleeves are graded G/VG, but importantly both remain intact with solid spines. Please see pictures for detailing of damage. Contained in what looks like original EMI inners.
Summary
This is not a near-mint archive set, but a genuine, honestly graded copy that reflects regular historical use. Playback generally improves as each side progresses. Condition is accurately reflected in the pricing.

- Cover, inserts, and inner sleeves are flawless.
- Almost indistinguishable from Mint.
- Record may have been played once or twice with no audible issues.
- No visible marks, scuffs, or handling wear.
- Cover is bright, clean, and free from major defects.
- Very light signs of use but still a high-end copy.
- Hairline marks or faint sleeve scuffs may be visible under strong light only.
- Should play near-perfectly with minimal background noise.
- Sleeve may show slight edge wear or minor handling but remains clean and attractive.
- Better than VG but not quite EX.
- Light, non-feelable marks or occasional low-level noise may be present.
- Still a solid, enjoyable listening copy.
- Sleeve may show moderate wear, small creases, or faint ring wear.
- Played many times and will show signs of use.
- Audible surface noise, more noticeable in quiet passages.
- Light groove wear or feelable scratches possible.
- Sleeve will show general wear, writing, or small defects.
- Significantly worn and may skip or repeat.
- Heavy noise and visible scratches.
- Sleeve may have tears, splits, stains, or missing sections.
- Just about playable with heavy noise, jumps, or distortion.
- Sleeve heavily damaged, torn, or defaced.
