Overview
Originally recorded in 1974 at Motown’s Hitsville U.S.A. studios, this double-sider showcases the Commodores at their rawest and most experimental. “The Assembly Line,” co-written and produced by Gloria Jones and Pam Sawyer, delivers a driving funk rhythm with socially conscious undertones. On the flip, “Gonna Blow Your Mind” lives up to its name — a psychedelic funk jam arranged by the Commodores and James Carmichael, featuring Milan Williams, Thomas McClary, and Walter Orange.
