This ultra-rare modal jazz LP recorded in Marblehead, Mass, 1972. It is a first pressing and to my knowledge has never been reissued in any form:

It's some 40 years ago, now, that "Compass" was born in Oneonta, New York. There were 3 young jazzers just starting to play together in area clubs back then: Joel Chace [piano] from Walton, Tom Ives [bass] from Schenevus, and Al Colone [drums] from Oneonta. They'd perform as the Joel Chace Trio, the Tom Ives Trio, or the Al Colone Trio, depending on who booked the gig. Then in 1971 Rick Lawn, a young saxophonist, a Philadelphia native, and a recent grad of Rochester, New York's Eastman School of Music, came to town to become an instrumental music teacher with the Oneonta Public School System. Lawn, a practicing and active jazz musician, was looking to continue playing jazz in his new hometown, and, through his research, easily discovered the trio of Chace, Ives, and Colone. The group got together and began to rehearse, quickly finding out there was a connection, a common interest in performing, and that they could produce a unique and creative blend of jazz. That may have been what ultimately led to the naming of the quartet, "Compass"; the group played jazz in every direction.

"Compass" began to test its newfound style and energy by booking performances on college campuses, mostly colleges and universities based in New York State. The band self-produced a demo-album entitled "Compass Rises" in 1972, which featured original compositions written and arranged by Lawn and Ives. "Compass" was one of five groups on a promotional program that opened the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 1972.

Condition: This LP is rated Good+ because of two places where the vinyl lightly skips, I have included these two songs in previews so that you can hear for yourself here (please note times that the LP skips in the preview titles):  http://soundcloud.com/domesticmachine/sets The cleaned LP was tested and recorded from my Marantz 6200 and Scott Stereomaster 342 Amplifier straight into Audacity. Other than normalizing, no other effects or restoration was made. This is what you will hear out of your speakers. These two samples represent the worst condition tracks on the LP. As you can hear, otherwise this vinyl is in VG condition with light marks and very little surface noise.  The sleeve is still in the shrink wrap and VG+, with some corner dings, see images. No ring wear or seam splits.

I am a collector myself and try to describe items to the best of my ability, as well I do not sell anything I would not be happy to own in my own collection. 
Shipping: I have a long history selling vinyl on Ebay and have worked in leading record stores in the past, please check my feedback. As you can see, I will ship your LP carefully in a cardboard LP Mailer, with spacers on either side to make sure it arrives to you with no dings. I ship the lp outside of the jacket to avoid seam splitting. 
US Shipping Rates are based on location and package weight. I cannot recommend media mail as an option because I have had records destroyed in the past and do not use it to ship vinyl I buy personally, however because some people rely on it I include it. I will absolutely not be accountable for anything damaged in media mail if you choose this option. Insurance is always recommended and I will be happy to add it if you'd like just send me a note when making payment.
