Italian EURO JAZZ milestone and Jazz Library milestone from the Fonit Cetra production. Legenday jam leaded by Gianni Basso and Oscar Valdambrini - a luxurious and yummy session recorded in the historical Fonit studios in Milan, December 1970. The record makes pair with H 602 - JAZZ: STILE POP/JAZZ, recorded just a few days days earlier and takes part to the series composed of 4 albums published on Fonit Library recordings by this small combo. 'Complesso Basso-Valdambrini' or 'Basso-Valdambrini Quintet' was composed of O.Valdambrini at the trumpet, G.Basso at tenor sax, Ettore Righello on piano, Giorgio Azzolini at the contrabass and Lionello Bionda at the drums. Some of the best and most prolific Jazz units to emerge from Italy late '50's to early '70s and possibly one of the last performances to date. Originally released for Library purpose and Promotional use destinated to TV synchronization. Title implies certain inspiration to 1960s Californian Jazz, with clear connections to Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan; awesome boppish drums with Cool and Modern Jazz brilliant compositions. Gold Mine has a jaunty but laidback Jazz at the Lighthouse atmosphere, a mood which continues with Glaucus in its Chet Baker feel and E’ Molto Facile (‘It's Very Easy’). Pick Up provides a bright barrage of trumpet, skipping piano and a Dizzy Gillespie rhythmic riffing. On The Jolly Basso’s tenor is darkly emphatic, with a lovely burnished, glowing tone. Ettore Righello contributes agile, methodical, story-telling piano cushioned by Giorgio Azzolini’s bass until unison sax and trumpet take over, waving the banner of the melody.
