Description
Offered here is "The Complete Columbia Recordings of Miles Davis and John Coltrane," issued by Mosaic Records. This set is #2068 of an edition limited to 5000 albums. This set is Out Of Print, never again to be re-issued by Mosaic Records.
This set (large box, large booklet, and LPs) is absolutely brand new. True mint. The 9 Q-LPs have never been played. If he/she chooses to play them, the winner of this set will be the first to hear these particular discs. The booklet has never been read or held for any time longer than a few seconds. When it arrives to the winning bidder, it will come very securely packed in a sturdy box for safe travel.
The music here contains some of the greatest recordings of all time, including "Kind Of Blue," "Round Midnight," "Milestones," and "58 Sessions," among others. The musicians here include Miles' first great quintet with Philly Joe Jones (drums), Red Garland (piano), John Coltrane (tenor sax), and Paul Chambers (bass). On later selections, such as "Kind of Blue" and "Jazz at the Plaza," musicians include Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly on piano, Jimmy Cobb on drums, Cannonball Adderley on alto sax, and Hank Mobley on tenor sax, among others.
For labeling's sake, the music here could be termed as modal, be-bop, and hard bop jazz, among others.
The booklet contains several rare session photographs, as well as extensive biographies and time lines, which track Miles' association with Columbia Records during this time from about 1955 to 1961.
