Wishbone marks a confident left turn for Conan Gray — his fourth studio album trades the maximalist pop of Found Heaven for something moodier and more textured, drawing heavily from '90s alternative rock and the kind of melodic, guitar-forward pop that defined that era. Produced with a rotating cast of collaborators including Daniel Nigro and Ethan Gruska, the record feels cohesive despite its varied influences, balancing introspective songwriting with genuinely hooky arrangements. Gray wrote and developed much of it quietly while touring, and that restlessness comes through in the music.
