Connee (or "Connie" with an "i" prior to the 1940s) Boswell recorded with her sisters, the Boswell Sisters, from 1925 to 1936, and continued a solo career until the mid-1960s.
Connie Boswell first gained fame as one of The Boswell Sisters--close harmony singers from New Orleans--during the Depression Era. After the act was disbanded, Connie went on to a solo career that lasted into the 1960s. She was unable to walk since the age of three, and spent much of her time performing for children and promoting The March of Dimes, and during WWII performed for wounded soldiers as well. Despite her disability, Connie was very active and enjoyed swimming, cycling and horseback riding when in California and sledding and snowball fights when in New York in the wintertime.
The Boswell Sisters were a highly influential, close harmony singing trio. Real sisters, they were three gifted musicians who emerged from the jazz movement in New Orleans in the early 1900s and became icons & pioneers in music & early radio & recording with influences that extend far beyond their own time. They took the idea of jazz and did it vocally, and they did it with such blending and precision that it has not been equaled since. Many giants of the swing era worked in their orchestras, and even stood and applauded them in honor of their musicianship at the end of a session--musicians such as Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Mannie Klein, Bunny Berigan, Joe Venuti & Eddie Lang to name a few.
