Description

This beautifully engineered deck must have been top-of-the-range in the early 1950s. There are no identifiers on the deck, so I'm assuming it's Connoisseur like the arm but this may not be the case. It has a very heavy machined turntable with a near-perfect felt mat, idler-wheel driven from a tapered motor shaft giving variable speed. Apart from a few chips off the paint and the fact that the mains lead no longer has a Bulgin socket, it is in excellent / mint original condition and operates perfectly. The Sugden-designed magnetic pick up has a transformer which can be bypassed for connection to a modern HiFi phono input. It can take fibre needles, and currently has a sapphire-tipped Broadcaster needle which has hardly been used and can play "5000 recordings" though that sounds a bit optimistic. I've used it to digitally record some of my records, and this deck revealed the amazing bass recorded on some of them. There are more details of the pickup at: http://www.rewindmuseum.com/vintageturntable.htm It is housed in a later plywood base with a smoked Perspex cover, both in good condition. As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advised that this is checked over by an electrician. Please note this plays 78rpm records only.
Weight = 10 Kg. Can be collected from Somerset or if preferred postage & packing within UK will be £20. Overseas - please ask, but only after you have won the auction.
