Up here is a hugely rare Elton John, Caleb Quaye etc related obscurity that hardly ever surfaces
The story is that circa 1969, EJ and friends recorded an album as The Bread and Beer Band, but didn’t manage to secure a release for it, so a tiny number were pressed up privately, barely any of which have ever surfaced.
That might have been the end of it, but at some point DJM, for reasons best known to themselves decided to press up two tracks as a single, which came out under the name Conrad’s Foot and predictably vanished without trace!
Mellow Yellow is a groovy, semi instrumental take, with tripped out vocals buried beneath a pumping dub sounding bassline, The Letter is much more uptempo with fuzz guitar and frantic drums, and a strong, very Elton John sounding vocal.
Condition is VG+, a few light scratches here and there but overall looks shiny and clean. There’s the odd bit of light surface crackle on mellow yellow, but nothing intrusive, I’m just being picky as it’s a significant rarity. Both sides play very enjoyably, and the sound quality is a lot better than the unofficial release of the album.
