An amazing rendition of Aaron Copland's masterpiece, with such a moving narrative by Henry Fonda. He at first balked at attempting to act as Abe Lincoln for John Ford's Young Mr Lincoln (1939), but relented (thank goodness). Fonda embraced his role and his voiceover to Lincoln Portrait has stuck with me for four decades, since I first heard it as a child. Perhaps some day, someone will release this and remaster it with love and care. Copland's own composition is simply marvelous. He worked his own love of country into his works. Yet you don't feel like patriotism is being forced into your skull when you let the music flow through you. These works let the listener imagine life, when work meant pulling up the overalls and growing callouses on your already-hardened hands. Definitely an overlooked masterpiece, that in my opinion should be an essential addition to your musical library.
