Coven  "Witchcraft"      'Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls'

This is an original US vinyl pressing on Mercury SR 61239 from 1969.   This was their first album.    The band was Jinx Dawson on vocals, Oz Osbourne on bass, Chris Neilsen or Jim Donlinger on guitar, Rick Durritt on keyboards, and Steve Ross on drums.     The cover has a double gatefold.    The first part has a photo of Black Mass scene with a naked lady on the alter and song titles and credits.    The second part has the lyrics to all the songs including the 'Satanic Mass', which is spoken and chanted.     There is a tiny sticker on the front cover that says "Karma 'D' Records ".    This record was withdrawn and has not been reissued.

Coven was the first hard rock/psych group to have diabolical subject matter.   Their songs are about The Devil, Witchcraft, The Occult, and Satan.   Their album cover has the 'sign of the horns' hand signs and there is an upside down cross on the back cover.     The bass players name is Oz Osbourne, but he is not the Ozzy that was in Black Sabbath.    This 'Witchcraft' album came out a few months before the first album by Black Sabbath.    And Black Sabbath may have taken their band name from the title on the first song on this record.   This album was withdrawn by Mercury Records in March 1970 after the Charles Manson led Tate-La Bianca murders.

The Songs are : Black Sabbath, White Witch Of Rose Hall, Coven In Charing Cross, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Pack With Lucifer, Choke Thirst Die, Wicker Woman, Dignitaries Of Hell, Portrait, and Satanic Mass.

This week is Halloween, so I am selling records about Witchcraft, Horror, and Monsters.     Including Coven's first single from this album with it's picture sleeve.

This record ends on the day that Daylight Savings Time starts.   So, it will end one hour before you expect it to.

Overall Condition is : Cover is VG+ /  Record is M-

The gatefold cover is VG+ no writing and no seam splits.   There is light ring wear, some seam wear, and some corner wear.     The vinyl looks mint and it plays near mint.    The labels are clean with no spindle marks.  The record comes in a plain white inner sleeve.

Packaging :

I take great care on every package and I do each one personally.     I will package this record between two pieces of hand cut cardboard.     Each piece is 1/2 inch thick, triple strength industrial cardboard.       Together they are very strong and unbendable.   ( Even the postmen comment on how strong this cardboard is ! )       I always remove the record from the cover and seal them in a clear plastic sleeve.     The package will be marked in red : "Fragile Record" on both sides.
