Description

Firstly, I'll start with a WARNING for prospective buyers of this title - be very careful when it comes to purchasing this title. There are a lot of copies out there being banded about as '1st press' - that are definitely are NOT! Read my expose on this example below - and, at the very least, it will give you a detailed knowledge of what you should be looking out for.
A genuine Xmas 1967 1st stereo pressing of DG on the UK Reaction label. Matrix A1/B1 - 1st cut. Very nice heavy pressed LP. Now, please be aware that some of the very earliest copies arrived in fully laminated covers - [part of the initial pre-order]. But the printers switched to 'just' front lamination fairly early on around 1st release. What we have, here, is a 1st pressing housed in a front laminated cover. Let's start with the vinyl. It needs to have an A1/B1 to be a 1st pressing. There are are earlier publishing credits on some of those very earliest pre-order copies - but the publishing credits on this example are good for that 1st issue prior up to the Xmas market. Here's another thing to check on the labels... do the publishing dates mention '1967' on both sides? They should do. If your copy doesn't it comes from a batch pressed later in 1968 - when they cocked up the publishing dates. Ok, so that's the record. On to the cover.. Ok, so it's front laminated only [which is fine for 1st press]. But to identify the 1st issue copies...look for a super-slim spine, the format indicator in the top left on the rear, and white track listing in the right side of the eye. If you have ALL of those apparent - then you've got yourself a nice early copy from the 1st issue period. We also have a plastic bag warning inner sleeve which is consistent with the late sixties period. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In great shape and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. A super little player with precious little to complain at. Intros and inbetweens are nice and clean and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. It plays real clean even into those super fussy tracks - like 'WGW'. 'Lament' right at the final inner grooves - plays clean as a whistle. There really is some fantastic audio pressed into this copy. You gotta love it. Interference is pretty inconsequential. Maybe just a few crackles in one isolated spot per side. Absolutely nothing that noticeable. A couple of minor ticks in SWLABR was the only vaguely discernible issue. Overall a fantastic rendition from this classic Cream LP - most certainly a keeper!
Cover (Vg+) A lovely clean shiny front cover. Note there's some laminate creasing down that spine edge - i've tried to illuminate it in the photo. The rear is in excellent condition particularly considering that it is unlaminated. There's no ageing apparent and hardly a single sign of surface wear. There's a bit of edge wear in the occasional patch - nothing bad. The only slight let down on this cover is the spine [as will be the case for many copies]. The spine is intact [i.e. it hasn't worn through anywhere]. But is exhibiting a good bit of wear - do not expect to make out any text at all on the spine. Overall the cover still retains very good rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
