Up for auction is a mint copy of Creedence Clearwater Revival's ABSOLUTE ORIGINALS 8 record box set, issued by Analogue Productions.  This is the version with each complete original album on a 33 1/3rpm LP, and an 8th record containing 5 tracks mastered at 45rpm - including the wide stereo mixes of "Bad Moon Rising" and "Proud Mary".  This set was mastered to the highest standard by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Grey from the original analog master tapes, and pressed on 180g virgin vinyl at RTI.  2,500 numbered box set were produced, and this is a low numbered copy - #82.
I bought this set new then - directly from Chad Kassem himself at a table for his company Acoustic Sounds at a Stereophile Magazine show in NYC.  I've played it sparingly over the years, only on a Rega Planar 3 - I think initially with a Grado Sonata cartridge, then with a Shure V15 VxMR (with both the stock MicroRidge tip, and also a Jico SAS).  The records are mint - grading a 9.5 overall, with no visual or audible wear.  I cleaned a couple of them on my Nitty Gritty wet vac years ago, but never got around to the others.  The covers are also pristine and mostly grade the same.  However, "Green River" has a bit of slight creasing on the rear cover, and "Willy and the Poor Boys" has a rear bottom corner ding and bit of a tear there - these faults were as they were when I bought the set.  Box grades a 9, and the book is mint.

Grading scale (grades 9 & 10 used sparingly):
Covers Gem Mint 10 – Cover is virtually perfect, without defect.
Mint 9 – Cover has no visible wear.  Colors are full and bright.  There will be no serious defects.
Near Mint 8 – Cover seems new at first glance, but has some barely noticeable wear.  Colors are full, but may be subdued.  White areas may have some very slight aging.
Excellent 7 – Cover has some very minor wear, but no serious defects.  Some minor friction or light flaking may exist.  Corners are relatively sharp, with maybe some minor wear.  May have some age mellowing of the white and colored areas.
Very Good-Excellent 6 – Some moderate wear will be noticeable on artwork, but there will be no serious problems.  Corners will not have significant wear.

Records Gem Mint 10 – Vinyl has no imperfections.
Mint 9 – Vinyl has no meaningful imperfections.  Vinyl luster is full.
Near Mint 8 – Vinyl has a few minor imperfections and should play without noticeable surface noise.  Vinyl luster is nearly full.
Excellent 7 – Vinyl has a few noticeable imperfections.  Vinyl still displays some luster.  Record may play with some slight surface noise, but nothing very distracting.
Very Good 6 – Vinyl has more noticeable, but not major, imperfections.  May display some original luster.  Record may play with some more surface noise than a grade 7, but will not overwhelm the sound.
