Rare private press with 6 works by American composer William Penn showcasing a huge array of sound sculptures and homemade instruments created by various designers. This was issued by an obscure Washington DC label (of Stereofernic Orchidstra "fame") in cooperation with the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution for their 1978 exhibition of unique American handcrafted musical instruments. Among the featured instruments are Cloud Chamber Bowls built by Skip LaPlante and designed by Harry Partch, Single String Stainless Steel Cello by Robert Rutman, Electronic Jawbone by Bob Natalini, Triple Ocarina by Susan Rawcliffe, Steel String Guitar by Max Krimmel, Bicentennial Turkey Tambourine by Jan Brooks Loyd, Portative Organ by John Brombaugh and George Taylor, Music By The Inch by Bob Hanson, Appalachian Dulcimer by Rufus Jacoby, and several others, plus Arp 2600 Synthesizer, rubber piano (Penn's own invention), jaw harp, and many additional unusual sound-emitting devices. Penn plays most of the instruments himself and is joined by a small ensemble that includes Jim Harmon. Up to 2 12" records to Canada is $16.50 for First Class Airmail with tracking. Up to 2 12" records to Mexico is $21.50 for First Class Airmail with tracking. Other international destinations vary as does the cost of adding additional lps depending on weight, email for a quote. Please note that First Class Airmail usually takes about 2 weeks and is uninsured. Packing I pack professionally and with the utmost care drawn from years of experience trading vinyl internationally. I use new record mailers from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective) reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
