Cure Of Ares-Oval Portrait/Stepping Stone (No Label 69-99 A/B) VG+/VG++
Respectable keeper copy of 1969 Minneapolis trippy organ psych gem. A-side is an original that has a two-beat verse with a searing vocal duet that musically gets heavy in the refrains. B-side is a guitar riff-driven 3-chord original that (NOT the Monkees song) that sounds like Cream with heavy organ and a wild break featuring a searing pair of dual guitars.
This is the first of two 45s that Cure Of Ares self-released, and both sides of this 45 were recorded at Audiotek studio in Mpls. I’ve only seen 2 copies of this 45 offered in 30 years of collecting and it’s probably the rarer of their two singles—since I’ve seen 4 of their other one from 1970 which is a remake of the T.C. Atlantic song “20 Years Ago In Speedy’s Kitchen” b/w “Sunshine”.
