This handsome and rather elusive LP from Vega (30 MT 10.252, French pressing, white label, mono) features the splendid violinist Charles Cyroulnik in stylish performances of Beethoven's Violin Sonatas No. 9 in A Major Op. 47 'Kreutzer' and No. 3 in B-flat Major Op. 12. He is partnered in both by equally charismatic Aldo Ciccolini. How refreshing two to hear a duo of equal talent and insight, each matching the other bar for bar in inspiration – indeed, their account of the Andante con variazioni 2nd Mvt from the 'Kreutzer' is truly mesmerizing.

Moreover, they are afforded well-balanced sound; a self-recommending disc – superb!

In lieu of liner notes, the reverse side of the jacket carries a listing of other titles in Vega’s “musique pour tous” series. The kitschy cover photo is credited to Réalités – Connaissance des Arts.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the flipback jacket is VERY GOOD+. Really, the only flaw to speak of concerns some ringwear and discoloration to the rear panel. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
