Here’s a truly rare album - a UK test pressing of Dana Gillespie's debut LP (including two completely unreleased and unheard tracks), whose release was cancelled.
After issuing several singles, in 1967 Gillespie got to record an album, backed by the cream of the UK's session men (including Jimmy Page), and including songs by Donovan (the brilliant You Just Gotta Know My Mind), Billy Nicholls (London Social Degree and Life Is Short) and others.
To trail the LP, a rare single was extracted (You Just Gotta Know My Mind / He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, Decca F12847). The labels on that 45 stated 'From the Decca LP Dana Gillespie', but - for reasons even Gillespie does not know - the album's release was cancelled. It eventually appeared in America as Foolish Seasons - but missing two songs included on this copy. Their titles (I guess from the words) are Walking Hand In Hand and These Open Arms. Both are superb 60s pop, with expansive arrangements like the rest of the album, and have never been issued anywhere, including on the recent CD reissue of the Foolish Seasons album.
Needless to say, this could be your only chance to acquire this remarkable rarity, which is in beautiful condition.
SLEEVE
This comes in a plain white card sleeve, with various things written on it (see picture). I'm not sure if members of Chicken Shack appear here, as the writing indicates.
DISC
The glossy vinyl is in beautiful Near Mint shape, and plays perfectly. The matrix numbers read ARL-8328-2B and ARL-8329-2B.
