Description
WOW!! FOR SALE is an extremely rare 1st vinyl pressing of the legendary Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You PROMO from 1988!!! This copy is in BEAUTIFUL condition with the only real flaw being a clipped corner which was done to promo copies which this is as it included the rare original Daniel Johnston promotional booklet. This has been long OOP, especially on vinyl. I’m open to offers so make your best one!
(Some pics contain shadows that are obviously not markings on the sleeve/labels and please feel free to ask any questions)
This EXTREMELY RARE LP comes complete with the even rarer Homestead promo insert with a Daniel Johnston profile along with a Homestead sheet of other releases on Homestead at the time. Both VERY fascinating to read and completely captures that moment in time from 1987-88. Again, this was very underground and this is the most rare, very limited original first vinyl pressing (only three issues were ever pressed -the newest one from 2007 is much more common but still hard to find. The original 1st pressing on Homestead was very limited and they do not come up to sale very often. This is a beautiful copy with only very few flaws listed below. Please read below for a very thorough description and I will highlight every flaw so you know exactly what you’re getting. I grade conservatively and always describe and take photos of any and all flaws in great detail.

Disc: EX : Most would grade this as NM. It appears to be unplayed or played very few times at the very least The disc retains its glossy sheen and is nearly immaculate save for a very few wispy paper sleeve traces and a couple of very light superficial marks under a bright light. Nothing deep or major at all.
Sleeve: VG+ to VG this is hard to judge because there is a corner clip which is very common for this pressing but is other-wise it’s a beautiful sleeve with only the odd very small crease or spot and slight corner bumps in a couple of corners. Only the slightest disc impression beginning to show on the rear (not ringwear) and the sleeve still retains a nice gloss. The spine is perfectly legible and the opening edge is sharp with no fraying. No unwanted writing. This record has obviously been stored well and cared for and only played s handful of times at most. If not for the corner clip, this sleeve would be a strong VG++ to EX.
Inserts: NM Both the rare promotional inserts are in immaculate condition and have no tears, folds, bends or marks.
Inner Sleeve: EX Generic white inner sleeve is unsplit and is in EX condition overall.
Labels: EX+ to VG+ slight factory wrinkle, tiny crease, ZERO signs of spindle wear or play...
This has only been pressed three times on vinyl- the first being this original 1st US pressing on Homestead from 1988, a UK pressing also from 1988 and only one reissue from 2007 which is still rare but much more common than this original pressing from ‘88!! Just try to find another! Please see pics and read the description carefully!!
Don’t miss your chance to buy this almost impossible to find on vinyl legendary lo-fi masterpiece whose album cover was made famous on a shirt worn by Kurt Cobain of Nirvana who was a huge fan of Daniel’s!
Daniel Johnston is as pure as an underground cult musician can be. He began by distributing his homemade recordings via cassette. The vinyl pressing was a very big deal for him even though it was short lived because of his mental breakdown in New York.
