Description
DANNY McCULLOCH - WINGS OF A MAN, 1969 solo album from the psychedelic period THE ANIMALS bass guitarist. This item is BRAND NEW, FACTORY SEALED. It was kept in storage since 1969 when it was brought over from the USA, it is guaranteed to be THE ORIGINAL USA RAINBOW CAPITOL LABEL pressing, it is in absolutely stunning condition, untouched for more than 40 years, THERE ARE NO IMPERFECTIONS WHATSOEVER ON THIS RECORD - all the corners of the cover are perfectly straight, there are no cut-outs, drill holes, etc., they can be found on most of the US records from this period, and they originated when the unsold records were marked down in the price or deleted, however the record offered for sale here was purchased soon after it`s release and never changed hands since. It is guaranteed to be an original FACTORY SEAL with age-appropriate breath holes in the shrinkwrap, not a latter date re-seal. It was a standard practice in the USA to sell shop stock in bulk to another shops, and (especially in the 80`s) new owners often used to re-seal all records, for them to look more marketable, as over years the original factory shrinkwrap could become grubby and torn, as it was on the shelves for years. Needless to say, it was possible in such cases for a used record to be re-sealed together with brand new ones. This particular LP however, is highly unlikely to be a re-seal, as it was brought to the UK soon after it`s release.
Danny McCulloch was one of the major song writers along with Eric Burdon in THE ANIMALS, who recorded albums "Winds Of Change", "The Twain Shall Meet" etc., he was a member of the late 1960s revamped 'NEW' ANIMALS band, in their psychedelic rock incarnation. Danny started his career as a member of Screaming Lord Sutch's band and in 1967 joined Eric Burdon and the Animals. In late 1966, after the breakup of the original formation of The Animals, McCulloch joined in for being the first "New Animal" of frontman Eric Burdon's new group. Together, they released a series of great albums and hit singles, the latter including "San Franciscan Nights", "Monterey" and "Sky Pilot". Band members guitarist Vic Briggs and McCulloch left the band in 1968 over financial disagreement with the band`s management. Danny McCulloch and Vic Briggs then started a duo career.
In 1969 they released the album, Danny McCulloch "Wings of a Man" produced by Briggs, for Capitol Records in U.S. Like late 1960s albums, this one featured a weird mixture of English and American influences. Tracks like the remake of "Orange and Red Beams", (from the Animals Lp "The Twain Shall Meet"), as well as "Glistening Windows", "Close of Life" and the pretty ballad "Mirror of the Sky" sported a psychedelic feel, complete with phasing and other studio effects. McCulloch penned nine of the ten tracks (the one exception being "No Face, No Name, No Number" which was a Traffic song from their "Mr Fantasy'" album), and the collection had a distinctive pop/psych flavor that recalled the post-R&B era Animals. Vocally McCulloch actually sounded a little bit like Eric Burdon. His performances were certainly rugged, but he was ultimately a more accomplished singer that Burdon. This album should be of interest to anyone who liked the mid-1960s Animals (especially their "San Francisco Nights" era psychedelic catalog).
