Description

DARK "ROUND THE EDGES" 1998 exact reissue LP (Akarma) AK-007 pressed in 180-gram brownish-gray marbled vinyl housed in a textured gatefold sleeve. M-/M. Holy Grail original is ultra-RARE U.K. private pressing from 1972. Featuring great fuzz guitar & songs from Steve Giles.

The passing of time is sometimes the great equalizer in Rock Music. Dark, an English psychedelic/prog band went unsigned & unheralded during their tenure from 1970 until their demise in 1975. But in hindsight & thanks to their privately produced 1972 album they are now acknowledged as one of the great bands of the era. The fuzz guitar of group leader Steve Giles may have been a few years out of date at the time but it certainly sounds fine now. Dark, which also included Ron Johnson on bass, Clive Thorneycroft on drums & Martin Weaver helping out on second guitar, is not inaccessible though. They display a wry sense of humor in their songs. “Maypole” with its great line “you’re wearing specs, you look like Michael Caine”, sounds like it should have been an FM hit. All the songs are top-notch. In addition to “Maypole”, “Darkside” & “R.C.8” are stand-out tracks. This 180-gram marble-colored vinyl pressing from Akarma in 1998 made their music more available to the public. Reissues have also appeared on collector labels Kissing Spell as well as Acme & recently Seelie Court has released 13 volumes of everything ever recorded by the band. But this edition, authorized by Steve Giles, is the first appearance of the original LP since its extremely limited pressing in 1972.
