A solid album which is recommended for any fans of Merseybeat... OK, the DC5 weren't from Liverpool, but they were definitely modeling their sound after that of the early Beatles, and did a better job of it than most.  These tunes were certainly not cutting edge in 1965, but that's academic at this point.  The album features four stand-out cuts -- "Come Home", "Hurting Inside", "I'll Never Know", and "Your Turn to Cry" -- all closer to the soulful ballad style of "Because" than the raucous big-beat sound of "Glad All Over".  "I'll Never Know" almost sounds like a Zombies tune.  The rest of the songs don't rise to this level, but are good overall.  "Till the Right One Comes Along" is DC5 unplugged, featuring only vocals, an acoustic guitar, and a touch of piano... a bit awkward but in a charming way.  The covers of "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Little Bitty Pretty One" are tight and energetic, but hew pretty closely to the originals... probably would have been better not to pick such huge hits to cover.  "Remember, It's Me" is, for the DC5, a bit on the experimental side... not a big focus for them, and this track perhaps shows why... it doesn't quite work.  Still, kind of interesting to hear them trying.

·      THE RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record comes in the original all-yellow stock inner sleeve.

(c)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more  preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stereo copies of this album outnumber mono pressings by a ratio of at least 5:1.

(e)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-       Front cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)   (BARELY VISIBLE)
