About the Record

.
This auction is for an exceptionally rare original 1st press copy of the Dave Edmunds debut LP titled 'Rockpile'!!

This LP is on the 'Regal Zonophone' label and features the original textured sleeve with the Garrod and Lofthouse print on the back. Not only is this an exceptionally early pressing with 1G / 1A stampers, this is also a Factory Sample pressing! Now, I've heard two stories as to what the Factory Sample sticker was used for. The first was that the sticker was used by factories when employees wanted to buy a copy direct using their discount. The sticker was stuck onto the label so that the worker couldn't then go out and re-sell it at full price. The second story is that after the promotional copies were run and the normal stock labels were loaded into the pressing machines, copies were occasionally taken from the production line, issued a Factory Sample sticker and then sent for quality control.

Whatever the reason, Factory Sample copies of albums make up a tiny percentage of an overall production run, and to find one on such a rare, collectible LP is a very hard thing to do!

The Cover : VG+/EX-

.

The cover is holding up really nicely for its age and has a really nice, rich colour to it. There is some light wear and tear, but nothing that you wouldn't expect to see on an album that's 45 years old. The front is lovely and clean with just a little, light disc impression and a touch of wear in the corners and along the very edges. Top and bottom seams have a very light wear but haven't split or torn or anything. The spine is holding fine with no splits or tears and with all the text fully legible. The back is nice and colourful with just a little, light disc impression. There does appear to be a little light staining at the top, but other than that the back is pretty clean. Overall, very nice cover!
Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG++

.

The playing surface has a wonderfully crisp shine to it! There's a fair amount of light scuffing here and there, a little moreso on side 2 which also has a few slightly heavier looking scuffs and light marks. I can't see anything heavy or deep and, overall, the playing surface is looking good!
.

Labels : EX-

.

The labels are clean and the silver text looks like it's faded a little, but overall the labels are clean with no stains or writing, and just a very light, faint, spidery spindlemarks. Nice labels!
