LP : The Dave Pike Set – Live At The Philharmonie

Original German press from 1970 on MPS RECORDS, MPS 15 257. Rare first pressing with pink label, only 1 year later the label changed: pressings from 1971 onwards have the red MPS/BASF label. Fully laminated gatefold-cover with extensive liner-notes in German & English. Recorded during the Berlin Jazz Days, 1969, November 7th. Includes some exclusive tracks wich are not featured on the Pike Set's studio albums, e.g. the psychedelic THE SECRET MYSTERY OF HENSH with mystical Indian influences. Strong performance by The Pike Set, celebrating their mixture of jazz, prog, “free” parts, rare groove and more.

I offer a mint- original pink label 1969 pressing of Dave Pike / Four Reasons on MPS in my current auctions, incl. the dope Sitar-track “Greater Kalesh No. 48” !

Condition: unfortunately this is NOT a mint- copy, I've listened carefully to the complete record to give you a detailed description:

side 1 looks vg+ in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks vg+ to vg under a very strong halogen lamp. Track 1 has a few low singular tics; track 2 has some low to medium tics at the beginning: some singular and also once in a row. Track 3 plays in mint-.
Side 2 is better, it looks ex- to ex-- in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks ex-- to vg++ under a very strong halogen lamp. Track 1 plays in mint-, track 2 has only during the quieter intro some tics in a row on the length of ca. 30 seconds.
The cover has a beautiful front & back, the inner is fine on the right side, but the left side has tiny faint brown spots wich cannot be removed with cleaning-liquid ( this seems to be kind of a misprint, please see photo, it's not that bad ), all seams/spine are intact with just a hint of slightest rub in very few spots parts on the seams ( the spine is perfect) ; slightest wear at the opening; the cover would be mint-- but for the brown spots I lower the grading to overall ex-.

Zustand: die LP ist leider nicht im mint- Zustand, ich habe sie mir gründlich & komplett angehört, hier die ausführliche Beschreibung:

Seite 1 sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe vg+ aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie vg bis vg+ aus. Stück 1 hat ein paar leisere vereinzelte tics, Stück 2 hat am Anfang einige leise bis mittellaute tics, vereinzelt und einmal auch am Stück. Stück 3 spielt in mint-.
Seite 2 ist besser erhalten, sie sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe ex- bis ex-- aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie ex-- bis vg++ aus. Stück 1 spielt in mint-, Stück 2 hat nur während des ruhigeren Intros auf einer Länge von ca. 30 Sekunden einige tics hintereinander.
Das Cover hat eine schön erhaltene Vorder- und Rückseite, im Inneren des Klappcovers ist die rechte Seite perfekt, die linke ist allerdings eine leichte Fehlpressung, sie hat zahlreiche kleine braune Flecken, die sich nicht mittels Reingungsflüßigkeit entfernen lassen; alle Kanten sind intakt mit nur ganz leichtem Abrieb an einigen wenigen Stellen an der Ober- und Unterkante ( die seitliche Kante ist perfekt ); ganz leichte Gebrauchsspuren am Einschub ; eigentlich ein mint-- Cover aber auf Grund der kleinen braunen Flecken insgesamt in ex-, bitte das Foto ansehen, es ist nicht soooo schlimm mit den Fleckchen. alle Platten habe ich professionell gereinigt und angehört (meist ganz, manchmal in Ausschnitten). Kommen mit neuer Außen- & Innenhülle !

Grading & Cleaning:

  • the record has been cleaned on my professional HANNL record cleaning machine

  • after that I playgraded it (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN:TU-3 Super Fine Line ( please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment )

  • I also visually graded the record in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

  • only an unplayed record is mint, the highest grading for a used record is mint- ! My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

  • cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve
