David Axelrod - The Auction - Decca. Cover NM / Record NM. One of the wildest records recorded by Axelrod. The narrative arc of this one covers the whole dirty gambit of north american history of racial inequality and the subsequent transcendence to freedom, themes very close to Axelrod's heart - a man who single handedly created a black music division at Capitol records and might easily be described as one of the most soulful white musicians of all time. Unbelievable production on this album, as always, with a rhythm section that reads like a blueprint for hip hop. This one really seems to slip past a lot of Axelrod collectors, perhaps due to its scarcity and the odd label it got bumped to (Decca). For me this sounds like a soundtrack to the penultimate imaginary broadway funk spectacle. Forget Galt... this is the real deal! Do not miss this auction.
