"The title track was written for ten acoustic guitars, commissioned by Gilbert Biberian for his guitar ensemble The Omega Players - it is an avant garde piece, and the "elephants" refer to the sound of a moistened thumb being dragged across the back of the guitar - the piece ends with a vocal setting of Blake's poem "Nurses Song" with Mike Oldfield on electric bass guitar accompaniment. The other tracks - It's Easier than It Looks (for 8 descant recorders and 8 alto-melodicas), Some Bright Stars for Queen's College (an educational piece written for 80 schoolgirls' voices and 27 plastic pipe twirlers), Trona (for 8 winds and string quartet), and Sad and Lonely Faces (for 6 pianos and 4 winds, ending with a Patchen poem, sung by Kevin Ayers)- are in a similarly avant garde vein."

Bedford's experimental '60's pieces - for 8 recorders and 8 Melodicas, for 10 acoustic guitars, for 80 female voices and 30 'whirlies', for 12 piece chamber ensemble, for 6 pianos,, instruments and (Kevin Ayres') voice. Says a lot about the '60's and has lasted pretty well. David was a highly sympathetic and accessible composer and these pieces are still stimulating and very listenable."
