Description

This is an original of the 1967 debut album by David Bowie on the Deram Label. It has been played on my Aiwa PX-E860 turntable to help me compile these notes. I'm no expert by the way, so this description is simply my personal view of how the record looks and sounds.

The album cover is complete and in good condition. There is a liitle amount of yellowing due to age. The sleeve states the record catalogue number to be DML 1007. I cannot be certain that the record is inside its original white sleeve but this too is in complete condition.

The record itself is in very good condition. I wish I could say it was perfect. But there is one scratch at the end of track one side one. It lasts only a few seconds and includes what I would call a single light knock rather than a jump. Other than this, the entire record plays perfectly without any obvous hiss or crackle.

I very much doubt that the record has been played more than a few times. There are no marks around the centre hole which would indicate frequent use. This is backed up by the fact that the record is also extremely clean bar the scratch on side one.

The history is that I bought this album second hand many years ago...at least 20 and probably more than that. I have played it twice. Once when I bought it and decided that early Bowie wasn't for me and once yesterday when I listened to it to help me write these notes.

INFORMATION UPDATE: Due to the amount of interest in this item and a subsequent question about the condition of the album, I have listened again to the part of the album I described as having a light knock between tracks one and two. I can confirm that the noise is actually on track two rather than between the tracks. There is a visible scratch on the album at the start of the track. Having listened very carefuly, I would say that after about 10 seconds, there is a double noise. It sounds like a "knock" and I think it might be wise to remove the word light from the description as it is definitely audible. Whether it is a scratch or a jump I just can't work out. My apologies for the need to make this amendment. If anyone who has already made a bid wins this item without seeing this amendment, I will of course offer them the opportunity to cancel the sale. Should this happen, it will be relisted.
