WELCOME TO OUR AUCTION!
On offer today is a Original 1971 uk issue of David Bowie's 'Hunky Dory' LP! Complete with ultra rare 'front Laminated' Robert Stace sleeve without 'gem production' or 'Mainman' credits! Also complete with lyric insert on the 'Glossy' RCA Orange labels!
Released in November 1971 'Hunky Dory' was Bowie's first LP to garner major attention from the music press and was heavily praised on its initial release! Stylistically it was a million miles from his previous albums from the proto-heavy rock 'The man who sold the world' from 1970 or the Folk Rock based 'David Bowie' (or Space Oddity) album from 1969 and a zillion miles from his debut LP from 1967! 'Hunky Dory' was his much more developed, polished and finer production to date. Obviously doesn't need too much introduction, but contrary to popular belief, this album was not a commercial success on initial release in 1971, Mainsteam success wouldn't come to Bowie until the next year (1972) with the release of 'The Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'. Hence, most copy's of this LP you find these days are from 1972 onwards, Post 1972 issues of 'Hunky Dory' are easily spotted due to various changes that was made to the sleeve and labels including added things like 'Gem Production' and 'Mainman' credits. Also labels going from glossy to matt finish. And the biggest change was the sleeve going from laminated to unlaminated finish. To find a 100% original issue from 1971 without all of these changes is very rare these days. THIS IS IT! A 100% ORIGINAL FRONT LAMINATED ISSUE!
This is the 1971 UK 1st pressing Stereo edition (SF 8244) on the 'glossy' RCA' label complete front laminated 'Robert Stace' printed sleeve with original lyrics insert! Also comes with an original 1971 review cut outs from Melody Maker!
Matrix No's : Side 1 : APRS 5947-3T 'Bobil' / Side 2 : APRS 5948-3T 'Rasputin'
Sleeve Condition : VG+ : The Front laminated Robert Stace sleeve in tidy condition for its age (46 years) with no major defects, just light creasing round the spine, also looks like a few small bits of black has been 'touched up' at the bottom seam, The laminated front still has a good shine and no splits, rips, tears or anything that would spoil the look of the sleeve. The rear has slight ringwear to the top but apart from that it's great! Altogether a very nice copy of this ultra rare album!
Record Condition : VG+ The original heavyweight 1st press vinyl is in great condition and still retains its just pressed sheen! The record does have lots of light of very light marks and signs of use, but nothing that effects playback whatsoever, I've played this LP from start to finish on both sides and can confirm there are zero playback issues! Also the mastering level on this 1st press is absolutely loud and clear!
