Description

DAVID BOWIE  HUNKY DORY SF8244 LSP4263

I bought this new from the legendary One Stop Records in Dean street. The Marix numbers are: Side I: APRS5917 31(Could be 3T?) Also further round the band is AZP (Could be A2P?) and there is also the legend ‘Bob’ who I assume worked at the pressing plant. Side 2: APRS5948 31(Could be 3T?) and further round the band is A/A2 (Could be A1AZ?) Then, amazingly instead of ‘Bob’ someone at the pressing plant has put their name as ‘Rasputin’ (I always knew he was meant to be able to cheat death, but why chose to work in a bloody record plant?) Whatever; if it does say 3T then it’s a first UK pressing. But note I’m not claiming it does, to me it looks like a one but, it could just be a T. However, it does credit Titanic Music on the label and there is no mention of Mainman on the back cover; so it may just be…

The disc retains its deep, black vinyl sheen, is clean and glossy and plays well apart from some very slight vinyl hiss between tracks that doesn’t detract from the overall sound, which is still amazing. The record lays flat on the turntable and plays well without the needle sticking or jumping. The labels have no signs of use, have no writing and are clean with no visible spindle scratches.  I’ve always tried to look after my albums; from 1970 I only ever played them on a Pioneer PL12D with a Shure N75 ED-T2 cartridge and stylus, tracking at 1.5 gms which I continue to use today – although the stylus has been replaced regularly.

The sleeve is still bright and glossy in very good condition with no tears or splits but there is a slight creasing where the top edge of the record sits. There isn’t any writing, taping or stickers; there’s only minimal edge wear and the spine is firm and totally legible.  The original white inner sleeve is still in good condition and the lyric sheet is too; apart from a tiny stain at the end of the line, “Of bullshit faith” in Quicksand. However, it is small and doesn’t obscure the lyrics. (See photo).  I will also include the original plastic outer that I bought with it. Amazingly it still fits tightly and has successfully kept the dust off for all these years.

Even if you don’t have a record deck and can’t play it, this album is a lovely piece of genuine memorabilia from a bygone time that changed the world and would grace any collection. I’m not a dealer of any sort, but am just downsizing and having to clear things out. You could accuse me of being mawkish and cashing in on Bowie’s death – but, when you’re surviving on a poxy pension, you have to take every opportunity! I’m starting it at a low price so a genuine fan or collector can enjoy it without paying rip off prices. I’m gradually clearing out my 300+ L.P.’s but because I feel duty bound to listen to them all for any faults and produce an accurate assessment of the sleeve etc, it takes a long time to list each one. However, if there’s something that you are particularly interested in, feel free to ask if I’ve got it. After that I’ve got to work through 500+ singles and loads of other stuff! Good luck with your bidding and feel free to ask any question.

An Important Word About Payment and Postage

Sorry but I accept Paypal only and it will be posted as soon as payment has cleared, which must be paid within 24hours of the end of the auction. This may seem harsh but I’m fed up with time wasters! I use I use 12" Vinyl LP Record Cruciform postal mailers and protect them with an additional layer of bubblewrap.. The boxes cost £1.60, which may seem steep, but the records stand a far better chance of surviving the journey unscathed. Consequently, I have to pass this cost on as the ‘packing’ element of ‘P&P’ as well as the cost of my 12 mile round trip to the nearest Post Office.Postage is for Royal Mail Signed For® 1st Class which, while dearer than what many other sellers offer, does at least give a better chance of things arriving and some comeback if they don’t. What’s more you get your record much sooner!

In the unlikely event of this selling for more than £50 the postage will be a bit more to cover the cost of insurance - please wait for the invoice.  If you require some other form of postage/delivery I’m more than happy providing you meet the extra costs.

Because of previous problems I will not sell outside of the UK
