DAVID BOWIE: KNOCK ON WOOD/PANIC IN DETROIT . Super Rare Original 1974 UK DEMO.

"I don't wanna lose this good thing..."
For auction here, one of the rarest of demo's from Bowie first purple patch. An odd choice of single at the time, this grinding off-cut from the David Live set barely made the UK top ten in '74 and is often overlooked when Bowie's 45s of the time get listed. Hoarsely delivered and shifted from its original soul sound to a rock swagger, "Knock On Wood was the last gasp of Bowie's glam era before he jumped ship to the slicker sound of Young Americans.
While stock copies of this disc are not rarities, DEMO VERSIONS certainly are. And here is one. Indeed, the A side label is PRINTED, STAMPED & STICKERED as a Demonstration copy. I've never seen an RCA pre-release with so much company promo info on. Even the B side has the release date "24 Sep 1974" stamped onto it!
Even better news is that the 45 is in genuinely EXCELLENT condition. The vinyl is bright and glossy, no scratches, warp or digs at all. There are two tiny areas that, under harsh light, seem to have lighter vinyl patches present but these do not effect playback in any way. All in all great condition for a record nearly 50 years old now!
The labels are bold and unfaded - no writing rips or stickers other than those that should be present. Even the original birth bag is smart and crisp. For all who collect true FIRST PRESSES of Bowie's releases, this is the one you want.
"The only survivor of the National People's Gang..."
