Description
Up for auction is a very nice first pressing of the David Bowie album Low, originally released in the U.S. on RCA Records (CPL1-2030) in 1977:
-Guaranteed original first pressing, not reissue -STERLING mastering stamp in deadwax -GC Greg Calbi mastering mark in deadwax -A-1 first pressing stamp in deadwax -"I" Indianapolis pressing plant mark in deadwax
-Original black RCA labels -Original inner sleeve -No UPC/bar code on cover
Note: The these U.S.(RCA CPL1-2030) were the true first pressings of these album, released earlier than the U.K. version, and thus the rarest and most sought after by serious collectors! Initially, "Low" did not sell well which is why so many of available copies are reissues from when "Scary Monsters" was released in 1980.
Most U.S. copies of "Low" sold as "original" on eBay are NOT, in fact, original pressings but rather second pressings with a different catalog number (AYL1-3856). Know the difference!
Condition: The cover is in very nice condition, very attractive and colorful with minimal signs of wear. No ring wear, no seam splits. Has a hard-to-see factory crease on front near David's chin, not significant. Minimal signs of rubbing on top and bottom seams. Corners are sharp, tiny amount of rub to a couple. Hint of rub on back top and bottom middle. Overall, very nicely preserved original! Grade: Excellent (EX)
Vinyl is also very nice, still retains its original shine. Side One, Track 3 has a small superficial scuff that does not affect the quality of playback which is excellent. Otherwise, the side looks great. Side Two is also very clean, just some faint superficial signs of having been taken out of paper inner sleeve a few times. Labels are clean, unmarked. Looks like this record has maybe been played only a couple times but handled with care, nicely preserved. Grade: Side One (Very Good Plus VG+) Side Two (Excellent EX)
