This is an original 1st pressing bought in the UK at the time of first release. It is not a reissue. It sounds great, which is hard-to-find on an original 1st pressing.

[Please Note: The word MONO appears on the first pressing and was removed later (not the other way round as some sellers are claiming). This can be verified by the fact that copies that state MONO on the labels also have the wide Philips font, which was changed shortly after the release of 'Space Oddity'.]

This is a 1st UK pressing from 1969. It has the wide Philips logo (later issues use a thinner font) both labels say MONO (later copies don't) and it has an intact 3-prong centre (most copies have a large juke box-style hole).

Visual.   The vinyl has some light hairlines, sleeve removal marks and signs of use, but nothing significant. The Philips company sleeve has some minor creases and signs of age, but no splits, tears or significant issues.

Audio A side. The A side starts off with a little bit of crackle in the run-in and intro for just a few seconds as the guitar fades up, but it is quickly gone and the rest of the quiet intro sounds great, as does the rest of the track, with just a little bit of background noise in the fade and run-out at the end of the track. I would play-grade this side as Excellent (Ex).

Audio B side.  It starts with some quiet crackle and some very soft tics in the very quiet intro, but as soon as the cello comes in, the audio is fine and carries on like that until the end. There are just a few random, solitary clicks here and there, but nothing significant. The quiet start to the song play-grades around Very Good (VG), but the rest of it is Excellent (Ex), so overall I'm play-grading the B side as Very Good Plus (VG+), although the majority of it is better than that.

Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below).

I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.

Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
