A WELL DOCUMENTED 1960s UK VINYL RARITY & CLASSIC
Artist: DAVID BOWIE
A-side:Space Oddity
B-side: Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud
Label: Philips BF 1801 (UK Original STEREO DEMO pressing)
Produced by GUS DUDGEON
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL, MINT COPY OF THIS SUPER UK BOWIE RARITY.
The history of this vinyl rarity is well documented and is as follows. "Space Oddity" was originally commercially issued by Philips only in MONO format in the UK. However, a very small handful of STEREO demos were pressed in the UK and given to a handful of important promotional people in the business. On offer here is one of those UK STEREO demo copies that are often referred to by 60s record collectors and hardcoreBowie fans as the 'holy grail'. It belonged to a UK record industry employee and has sat amongst many other rarities for more than 40 years.
This STEREO version of "Space Oddity" is the complete 5 plus minute performance as opposed to the edited version, whilst the b-side features "Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud". This is again in STEREO and is different from the LP version as it features Paul Buckmaster’s spoken intro. There are less strings and brass on this alternative version too.
This is a guaranteed ORIGINAL 1969 UK 1st STEREO DEMO pressing made with a 3-point pushout centre. For the avoidance of doubt all 3-points are completely intact.
Grading
Labels - The white DEMO labels with black print are in PERFECT condition and there is NO wear and NO spindle marks at all. As shown by the photo the printers used a black bar to delete the mono reference from the top right side, replacing it with a clear black printed STEREO on the lower right of the label.
Vinyl - Wonderful and a joy to see and graded, using Record Collector magazine guidelines as MINT. I used to write for the magazine and strictly adhere to their rules regarding grading.
Company bag – As you might expect the Philips white and blue print wavy-top bag shows some minor discolouring/browning at the top but for its age is otherwise in excellent condition with no rips or tears and only some minor creasing.
This is a great Pysch/Mod/60s rarity. Good luck bidding.
Payment: Cheques and direct bank transfers are preferred and PayPal is accepted too. However bidders must accept the associated, non-negotiable shipping terms as stated below in "Shipping".
Shipping: Items I sell are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive at their destination in the condition they leave me.
I do not accept any responsibility for payments/items lost or damaged and not covered by adequate insurance. If you do insist on using PayPal through the eBay checkout, the consequence of PayPal's rigid conditions is that all items must be sent by an adequately insured shipping method with proof of delivery. For UK buyers this means Recorded Delivery up to a value of £46 and Special Delivery for anything of a higher value. For overseas buyers it will mean International Signed-For Airmail for any value. Many thanks for your cooperation.
