Description

Extremely rare Stereo first pressing of The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie in the dress cover. This is the textured sleeve with the 'Tonny' Visconti misprint credit. Released in 1971 on Mercury Records the record was swiftly withdrawn due to the controversial cover. The record has been well played and there are a few hairlines but nothing serious. There is an arch shape hairline through tracks 1 & 2 on Side 2 which is visible but others you do have to look for. Played through my Rega Plana 3 deck both sides play through fine without any jumps and sound quality is good.
I would grade the vinyl as VG maybe VG+ The textured cover has foxing around the edges and has a 7cm worn slit in the centre of the spine. The text on the spine has faded out.
The bottom right edge of the cover also has a 3cm worn slit. The labels show evidence of play with a lot of light spindle marks. Otherwise the labels are very clean.
I believe the paper inner sleeve is original. It too has slits on two of it's edges.
The stamped matrixes read 6338041 1Y-1 420 11/2Y-1. A chance to acquire this incredibly rare LP by David Bowie on Mercury Records 6338041
