Description
Up for auction is a nice copy of the David Bowie album "The Man Who Sold The World" originally released in the U.S. on Mercury Records (SR-61325) in 1970. Vinyl comes in audiophile protective inner sleeve.
This copy has the common punch hole in the cover and the following hand etchings in the run-out/matrix:
SR-61325-B-M1
SR-61325-A-M2
Bootlegs are rumored to have "SR-61325-ah-M2" etched in the matrix, but I can't confirm that.
The cover is in very nice condition, generally clean and attractive. Front colors are bright and clean, very little rubbing loss. White boarders are clean, with only a hint of age discoloration around edges (on most copies the white is significantly browned). No significant ring wear on front. Does have a punch hole in upper left corner (see photo), which is common as this album did not originally sell well. Back cover is also nice, yellow looks bright and clean with only a small hint of ring wear at top middle (see photo). Overall, a well-preserved example of this cover. Grade it Excellent Minus (EX-).
Labels are clean and flat, not bubbled or discolored like many copies you'll find. Has a couple very faint spindle trails, but not serious from previous play.
The vinyl is also in very nice condition, still retains its original shiny gloss. Generally clean with no significant scratches or scuffs. Does have a tiny hairline before last track on Side Two, and may cause a light tick, but it plays fine on my system. Side One has a couple very faint signs of having been taken in and out of the paper inner sleeve a few times, but nothing serious. Record looks like it's been played only a few times at most--I've had it for 30 years and never played it, archived. Well-cared for, looks nice but not perfect, and will play as such. Grade the vinyl Excellent Minus (EX-), a notch above typical VG+.
