HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB, UK RCA RECORDS (SF 8287/LSP 4702) VERY FIRST PRESSING (June 1972) OF DAVID BOWIE'S CLASSIC AND ICONIC MASTERPIECE, "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars"

PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL (much heavier weight than later pressings and with the characteristic RCA smooth outer edge)
THE ALBUM HAS THE FIRST ISSUE RCA SMOOTH ORANGE LABELS WHICH CARRY THE "Titanic Music / Chrysalis Music" CREDIT (changed just a few months later to MainMan / Chrysalis text)
AND IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, MATTE SLEEVE, "Printed in England by Robert Stace" AGAIN, THE SLEEVE HAS NO MainMan Logo (which is present on ALL copies after December 1972)
COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL LYRIC INNER SLEEVE (Correct original inner again with "Titanic Music / Chrysalis Music" credits)
FIRST ISSUE MATRIX: BGBS 0864 - 1E / BGBS 0865 - 1E (very rare and hard to find earliest UK matrix)

Borrowing heavily from Marc Bolan's glam rock and the future shock of A Clockwork Orange, David Bowie reached back to the heavy rock of The Man Who Sold the World for The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Constructed as a loose concept album about an androgynous alien rock star named Ziggy Stardust, the story falls apart quickly, yet Bowie's fractured, paranoid lyrics are evocative of a decadent, decaying future, and the music echoes an apocalyptic, nuclear dread.
Fleshing out the off-kilter metallic mix with fatter guitars, genuine pop songs, string sections, keyboards, and a cinematic flourish, Ziggy Stardust is a glitzy array of riffs, hooks, melodrama, and style and the logical culmination of glam.
Mick Ronson plays with a maverick flair that invigorates rockers like "Suffragette City," "Moonage Daydream," and "Hang Onto Yourself," while "Lady Stardust," "Five Years," and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" have a grand sense of staged drama previously unheard of in rock & roll. And that self-conscious sense of theatre is part of the reason why Ziggy Stardust sounds so foreign.
Bowie succeeds not in spite of his pretensions but because of them, and Ziggy Stardust -- familiar in structure, but alien in performance -- is the first time his vision and execution met in such a grand, sweeping fashion

LABELS: The labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO unwanted marks/writing and hardly any evident spindles that I can see
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its original DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN. Under a bright light the surfaces have numerous light hairlines but NO other marks and these hairlines have NO major audio consequence
VINYL Audio: CRYSTAL CLEAR, WARM, RICH and VERY STRONG audio reproduction. SENSATIONAL DELIVERY THROUGHOUT - "TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME", as suggested on the back of the sleeve and I play-graded this VERY LOUD. There are NO jumps, NO sticks, NO scratches, NO loud clicks/pops and only a slight touch of surface noise between some (not all) of the tracks and on the run-ins (nothing major). The record plays to an very high standard with GREAT CLARITY, NO groove-wear and NO distortion and must be critically graded a strong EXCELLENT to (+) for audio. NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use strict RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page). LOVELY COPY
SLEEVE: The sleeve is CLEAN, BRIGHT and FRESH. There is virtually NO edge wear to speak of and the spine is straight and true with ALL the text SHARP and BOLD. There is a slight touch of the record impression and a couple of light creases but overall, an EXCELLENT example of this first press sleeve
INNER SLEEVE: Correct original inner with "Titanic Music / Chrysalis Music" credits. CLEAN, FRESH and UNMARKED but most importantly it has NO splits which is very rare as the inner which is printed on thin paper and is very delicate. There are some light handling creases but nothing major. The LP will be posted in a new inner to avoid any 'knifing' of the original during transit
