Description

QUENTIN REYNOLDS was an American writer and World War II foreign correspondent.  His career lasted over forty years, distinguished by voluminous journalism, broadcasts and books.  He was the real-life model for Joel McCrea's heroic radio reporter, in the 1941 Hitchcock movie, "Foreign Correspondent."

On September 10th, 1941, with World War II raging in Europe, and America very nervous about joining in, Reynolds let fly from London with this broadcast editorial, a stern, sarcastic open letter to "Adolf Schickelgrüber," a.k.a "Hitler," giving him a smart dressing-down for all the trouble he'd caused to date!  Would that Der Füehrer had taken Reynolds' advice!!

It's rare to see such a talk preserved on commercial 78-rpm records, but H.M.V. thought it important enough to issue in its entirety on two consecutively numbered discs.

These two original plum-label HMVs B. D. 947 and 948 are in EE+ condition.  BOTH have hair cracks! These have been  stabilized at the rim, and do not sound on my rig.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
