presents the

Debonairs

You are bidding on a vintage, sealed lp album in slipcase.  I recently purchased it at a benefit sale in the Dallas area.  I don't know where it's been all these years, or what conditions it has been stored under.  It seems to be in very nice collectible condition.  The slipcase shows a small amount of wear and creasing(mostly at corners), but the original clear shrinkwrap is intact and lp has never been removed.    

What a piece of history!  The front photo of the cover features the Debonair Danceland in all its' nighttime neon glory...even shows the pay phone booth out front!  The album features Don McKnight, Gene Bench, and Jim Love.  Includes musicians Jimmy Belkins(fiddle), Jackie Thompson(steel), Joe Cook(guitar), Gary Gibbs(piano), Danny Wood(bass), and Darell Crouch(drums).  Produced by Earl Martin, Don McKnight, and Danny Wood.  Engineer Jerry Hudson.  Photography & art by George Jara.  Recorded at Pantego Sound Studio, May 1980.  Mar-Night Records. 

History on backside cover: 

  • 1963 Don McKnight & Earl Martin started their own band & had success at The Palms Danceland
  • Band became "The Debonairs" in a name the band contest
  • 1966 band moved to the Southern Club for 1 1/2 years
  • 1967 formed a partnership with James Coltharp and converted a supermarket into a night club
  • Named the club for the band that played 7 nights a week ~ The Debonair Danceland
  • Faces on the bandstand changed occasionally, but the sound remained the same
